With the Class of 2010 — for the most part — in the books for nearly a week, Rivals.com has gotten around to naming its recruiters of the year.
And, in a mild surprise, it wasn’t someone from the SEC.
Instead, Cal assistant Tosh Lupoi has taken home Rivals’ top honors for the 2009-2010 recruiting season. Thanks in large part to his efforts, Cal reeled in two five-star recruits and four carrying four-star labels. Three of those recruits were from East of the Mississippi, quite an impressive feat for a school whose name doesn’t rhyme with “Schmouthern Schmal”.
Overall, Cal’s class was ranked No. 11 in the country by the recruiting service.
Conference-wise, the SEC’s six recruiters were the most for any league, followed by the Big 12 with 5. The Pac-10 and AC were next with four and, surprisingly, the Mountain West was next with three.
Interestingly, the Big Ten and Big East had the exact same number of recruiters on the list as did Conference USA — one.
Recruiter of the year should go to the recruiter that did the most with what he had to work with. Being a Recruiter in Florida and convincing 20 kids to stay at home and play in the number one conference in the Nation is not that impresive. When you measure how well a Recruiter did compared with what they have to offer Auburn is probably the best out of all the SEC teams.
