Starting La. Tech QB busted for big-number DWI

Sonny Dykes has been on the job for less than a month, but the new Louisiana Tech head coach already has an off-field issue to deal with.

According to both the Shreveport Times and the Associated Press, starting quarterback Ross Jenkins has been charged with DWI following an arrest early Sunday morning.  The junior was popped at a sobriety checkpoint being handled by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

And this was no ordinary, half-ass DWI, either, as Jenkins had a whopping .228 BAC, which is nearly three times the legal limit.

Dykes said in a statement that he was disappointed with Jenkins’ arrest.  There is no word on what if any punishment will be meted out by the school, other than it will be handled internally.

Jenkins has started 20 games the past two seasons for the Bulldogs.

I know that all of the toothless, shoeless, corn pipe smoking Southern folks drink moonshine out in the woods. I guess I didn’t realize that it was such an issue that they have to have park rangers running checkpoints.
