MTSU down yet another coordinator

For much of the coaching search season, Rick Stockstill‘s name was attached to openings at Memphis and East Carolina.

While Stockstill ultimately opted to eschew the other head coaching opportunities and remain at Middle Tennessee State, his coaching staff was and is very much in a state of flux.

Defensive coordinator Manny Diaz left in January for the same job at Mississippi State, and now Stockstill has all but lost the coordinator on the other side of the ball.

According to the Murfreesboro Daily News Journal, Tony Franklin is leaving the Blue Raiders for the offensive coordinator position on Sonny Dykes‘ Louisiana Tech staff.

Franklin, who directed an offense in 2009 that broke MTSU records for total yards and points scored, has a previous relationship with Dykes, coaching on the same Kentucky in 1997 and then again in 1999.

The 52-year-old coach was also Tommy Tuberville‘s coordinator for six games — plus the prior year’s bowl game — at Auburn before being fired with six games remaining in his first and only season with the Tigers.

Any word on possible replacements at either position?? Stockstill is going to have to prove he was worth the raise this off-season with his hiring choices.
