After losing Giff Smith to the Buffalo Bills late last month, Paul Johnson has filled the hole in his Georgia Tech coaching staff, the school announced.
Georgia native Andy McCollum will replace Smith and coach the Yellow Jackets’ defensive line. McCollum will also take over as Tech’s recruiting coordinator.
“We will be happy to have a coach with the experience and knowledgethat Andy will bring to our program,” Johnson said in a statement “I have coachedagainst and recruited against him for a long time, and I am confident hewill do an outstanding job here at Tech.”
McCollum spent the last three seasons coaching linebackers at North Carolina State. Prior to that stint, he was head coach at Middle Tennessee State from 1999-2005.
“I am excited to be a part of a great coaching staff and to work withCoach Johnson,” McCollum said. “It’s a great opportunity to comeback home to Georgia and work at an outstanding school.
“I’m also excited about continuing the relationships within thestate that I have developed over the years. Without question, some ofthe best high school football programs are in the state of Georgia.”
