The up-and-down career of Markques Simas at Colorado took another downturn today as head coach Dan Hawkins announced the wide receiver has been indefinitely suspended.
Simas was suspended for violating unspecified team rules.
The sophomore’s 2008 season was wiped out due to academic issues, as were the first two games of the 2009 season.
“This is obviously disappointing, but we are going to continue to emphasize our philosophy of excellence with class and we will uphold our standards,” Hawkins said in a statement.
When Simas finally got on the field last season he was productive, finishing second on the team in both receptions (43) and receiving yards (585). He also scored three touchdowns.
I’m a Husker fan and as much as I hate Colorado and laugh at how ridiculous their players are, I feel bad for Hawkins. That guy walked in to such a disaster and it’s hard to recruit good kids to a place where you can get such good drugs…and I’m being serious. Hawkins has fixed so many things off the field it’s insane and it’s only a matter of time before that translates in to wins for them. While I hope they lost every game they play, I’m kind of torn between that feeling because I like Hawkins for what he’s doing there…Hopefully they keep him around a while. Hawkins deserves it.
@ Hamburger:
unfortunatly, and i’m sure you know this already, that doesn’t count for much when you’re talking to the muckity mucks in an office. they dont understand the game very well yet can hire and fire coaches no matter how big the 8 ball was when the coach gets there. everybody looks for that quick turnaround.
i also hope hawkins gets a fair shake and gets to stay around. colorado was fun to watch when they were competeing for the big 12 champinships
