DUI led to Simas' suspension

We noted yesterday that Colorado wide receiver Markques Simas had been suspended indefinitely for violating unspecified team rules.

As it turns out, driving drunk — allegedly — is one of those unspecified team rules.

According to the Boulder Daily Camera, Simas was pulled over early Friday morning and ultimately charged with DUI.  Here’s the Daily Camera‘s account of what led to the arrest:

According to the report, a Boulder police officer saw a gold Explorer make a U-turn without using a turn signal near 15th Street and University Avenue around 2:20 a.m. The SUV also crossed the double yellow center line while making the turn. When the of-ficer stopped the vehicle, the driver, who police identified as Simas, had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, the report said.

Simas had a BAC of .135, telling officers that he drank two beers and part of a third earlier in the evening.  That should alarm the university as it would be an indication that Simas’ weight has dropped from a listed 215 pounds down to about 80 pounds, a disconcerting decrease for a supposedly healthy athlete in such a short period of time.

Either that or he was BSing the officers about the level of imbibing.  One of the two.
