Three-spliffs-and-you’re-out policy back on Rocky Top

Look out, Volunteer tokers. The administration has their eyes -- and pee cups -- on you.

Before 2007, you would get the boot from the Tennessee football program for three failed drug tests. A revamping of the policy in 2007 allowed for a fourth strike if the test was a positive for marijuana.

Come July 1, however, the school will revert to the old policy and all student-athletes will be back under the three-strikes-and-your-out edict.

While athletic director Mike Hamilton was not available for comment, he did tell the Knoxville News Sentinel in January that "[t]here’s a pretty strong record if someone makes it to the third step, they are going to end up being dismissed. Very few are able to go back.”

The News Sentinel also reports that the school is considering a gun policy -- an attempted armed robbery involving three UT football players was one of two high-profile incidents involving accidents and guns -- but there are legal ramifications that need to be considered.
