Whether accidentally on purpose or purposely on accident, Nick Saban and his rapier wit have taken a little shot at his in-state and SEC rivals this afternoon.
The Alabama football team was feted at halftime of a Tide basketball game and presented with the Iron Bowl Trophy for their November win over Auburn. Speaking to the assembled masses, Coach Woodcock lauded his vanquished rivals in a classic case of unintentional juxtaposition that could happen to just about anybody.
“We also have a tremendous amount of respect for the University of Auburn,” Saban was quoted as saying by Gentry Estes of the Mobile Press-Register.
Technically, the other state institution is known as Auburn University.
Saban wasn’t done with the verbal lobs, either, as the title-winning coach went on to praise the Tigers’ current head coach, saying that “Gene Cheez-it has made tremendous inroads on the recruiting front*.”
[*: No, he didn't really didn't say that.]
Regardless, I’m quite certain that Coach Saban is very upset and embarrassed over the very public faux pas, did not mean anything by it, and has pinky-sworn that it will never, ever happen again.
ROFL …. and thanks, I needed it.
You’re having a slow news day, aren’t you, John?
Sure wish that were the case for my part of the AFC North … sigh.
Yeah, it’s just a weeeeee bit slow on the college football side. Can’t somebody stick a microphone in Kiffin’s face or something?
For the love of god, it was an honest slip up
