Hip surgery likely to sideline USC safety

With Southern Cal looking to replace both Taylor Mays and Will Harris due to expired eligibility, one of the potential replacements at safety will probably be MIA for the duration of spring practice.

According to USCFootball.com by way of the Orange County Register, Drew McAllister underwent hip surgery recently and is expected to miss spring ball because of the procedure.  Interestingly, a hip injury forced the junior to miss three games last season.

With the exception of sophomore T.J. McDonald, the safety position seems very much in a state of flux right now, as explained by the Register:

Candidates include sophomore Jawanza Starling, who’s also playing baseball this spring; senior Marshall Jones, who switched to cornerback last season and missed the final nine games because of a sprained neck; and freshman Patrick Hall, who’s joining the team in spring after failing to qualify academically in fall (but spent just enough time on the practice field to tear an ACL).

So yeah, safety is not exactly looking like a team strength right now.
