Back in late November, and a little less than two weeks before Clemson’s ACC title game tilt with Virginia Tech, athletic director Terry Don Phillips said that “at the appropriate time everybody will turn their attention” to amending head coach Dabo Swinney‘s contract.
Now, apparently, is the appropriate time.
According to the Associated Press, Swinney has been given a one-year contract extension that will pay the coach $900,000 more than he made in 2009.
Swinney is now signed through the 2014 season, and will make $1.75 million in 2010.
“We were pleased with the performance of the Clemson football program under Dabo Swinney this past season and feel the new salaries reflect these accomplishments,” Phillips said in a statement.
Swinney’s assistants were also the beneficiaries of the 9-5 season. All told, the nine assistants were given raises totaling nearly $500,000.
Defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, who initially accepted an offer to become Tennessee coordinator before opting to stay with the Tigers, received a $200,000 raise and will pull in $575,000 this season.
Clemson played Georgia Tech not Virginia Tech in the ACC title game.
