Five weeks after National Signing Day came and went, Randy Shannon and the Miami Hurricanes are still adding to their 2010 recruiting class.
And this latest — and likely last — one is a very big recruiting fish.
Latwan Anderson, the No. 15 player in the nation according to Rivals.com, has committed to The U, choosing the ‘Canes over West Virginia.
The defensive back had originally committed to the Mountaineers, but backed off that verbal. He had also considered his home-state Ohio State Buckeyes, and just recently dropped Southern Cal from consideration.
“I felt that all things were equal between West Virginia and Miami,” Anderson told SI.com. “The only difference was the football. In my opinion, Miami is far and away closer to winning conference and national championships than West Virginia.”
Anderson also stated that the location of the two school played a role in his decision.
“Even if I don’t make the NFL, I could see myself living in Miami after I get my degree,” Anderson said. “I don’t know if I can say the same if I went to West Virginia. I don’t know if I can see myself living there after school.”
Again, what is the story with this kid? Why did Tressell back away from him?
As a WVU fan, I say Ouch. If Lying RichRod hadn’t left, no way you could say Miami is closer to a National Championship than WVU. However, with Gomer Pyle as coach, he’s probably right. As for living in Morgantown, I can’t argue with him.
WVU needs a real coach and soon.
I agree with BownsTown – something about him or his background left him lacking when it came to the Buckeyes.
It could be revealed when he starts showing up in police reports once he gets to Miami. That town is not the place to go for a kid from some where Ohio to go without parental supervision.
Not to mention his comments sound more like he was fishing/looking for the best “party school” that offered a football opportunity. One thing is definately certain tho – at least at Miami the Sugarcane fans don’t need to burn couches to keep warm after games.
Tressel might have just missed this kid or they might have been out of scholarships to offer at his position after he backed out of his verbal with West Virginia.
If you did your research on the kid he’s pretty smart he attends an acedmic school that was started by Ted Ginn Jr.’s dad and he plays football at the local highschool. He seems to be a smart kid so don’t say he’s troubled if you don’t know. He just picked Miami over West Virginia and he had his reasons behind it.
