Uh.
Oh, The Sequel.
Oregon’s offseason of law-flouting has potentially taken it’s most damaging turn this evening as their starting quarterback is facing theft charges and a court appearance.
According to the Eugene Register-Guard, QB Jeremiah Masoli — along with former teammate and wide receiver Garrett Embry — will be arraigned on Friday on a charge of second-degree burglary.
The charges stem from an incident back in January in which members of a fraternity accused the two players of stealing, among other things, two MacBook Pros and a guitar.
Masoli will become the sixth — at least I think he’s the sixth. These arrests are starting to run together — Duck to face criminal charges in the last two months. Teammate LaMichael James, as noted in the post right below this one, also has a court appearance Friday, setting up the opportunity for the duo to go green and carpool to the day’s proceedings.
Obviously, Masoli being charged — and whatever punishment would be forthcoming from head coach Chip Kelly — could have huge implications on the national landscape as the Ducks are expected to be one of several teams with more-than-passing shot at being in the national title mix.
That is, unless Kelly decides to wrist-slap Masoli, seeing as how he’s a key contributor and all.
So I guess there is a limit to how much Nike money can buy around those parts. Lets all hope for Masoli’s sake the judge doesn’t force him to complete passes for his freedom. Now that would be cruel and unusual punishment for one and all.
Did the Ducks suddenly stop worrying about the character of recruits they bring to Eugene? How brainless do you have to be to get involved with some petty theft at a frat house when you are the starting QB of a team that should be top 5 in the nation next year? Or, try this one on for size….Hey, I was the best freshman runningback in the country, I think I’ll choke out my girlfriend! Kelly, you got bit problems. This obvious crappy part to all of this is when a non-scholarship or lightly used Oregon player gets popped for something, even tweeting something the coach doesn’t like, he gets booted off the team immediately. Masoli and James? Well, slow down there. Let’s wait for the facts.
Wow. This is amazing.
Each year you see someone or a group of players fall from grace. Whether it is due to academic, personal or legal problems is to be determined.
Masoli is this years Juice Williams.
Paging Mr. Knight……Mr. Knight
lets not forget the ohio state arrests, the florida failed drug tests. ohio states recruits getting shot in a gang involved shooting. i dont think oregons 4 players who got in trouble are even close to all the craop thats going on at other schools. so dont even try to say chip kelly has any problems, because he does have 1. where to put all these players. were deep, we wont miss masoli..
heres a quick fact… since jim tressel has been coaching ohio state over 60 players have been arrested on theft, burglary, dui, assault, prostitution, gun charges.
so in all i think oregons ok.
