John Clay, the Big Ten’s reigning Offensive Player of the Year, will be sidelined for the whole of spring practice, head coach Bret Bielema has announced.
Clay underwent a “clean-out” of both ankles recently, and will be on the sidelines as he rehabs what seems to be just a minor procedure that, barring an unexpected setback, will in no way impact his availability for the start of summer camp. In fact, it was such a good thing that Bielema is damn thrilled that his star back underwent the knife/’scope.
“The thing that excites me about his injury is I think (the surgeries will) give him relief, allow him to become a better football player,” Bielema said according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
Bielema added that he expects the junior-to-be, who rushed for over 1,500 yards in 2009, to be fully healthy for the start of the Badgers’ summer conditioning program on June 7.
