As yesterday was mainly spent on the trials and tribulations of the Oregon football program, there are a couple of items of interest involving the defending national champs that need to be addressed.
When Dont’a Hightower suffered a knee injury fairly early on last season, it was widely reported that the Alabama linebacker would not be able to participate in contact drills until summer camp. That, however, doesn’t appear to be the case.
Head coach Nick Saban disputed those reports, saying first off that he “never said that” Hightower would be out for that length of time, then added that the LB will “practice every day like everybody else. … I think he could play in a game right now.”
Then there’s the curious case of Robby Green.
Green was suspended under “mysterious circumstances” last month, but Saban told reporters yesterday that, after missing the first practice of the spring Friday for “personal reasons”, “he will be back and will be able to practice” when the Tide resumes spring ball on March 22.
Green is expected to fill one of the starting safety jobs in 2010.
Great news–especially about Dont’a!
