Urban to be a no-show for spring unveiling?

In the weeks and months that have ensued since Urban Meyer’s flip-flopping on staying/going as Florida’s head coach, it’s been reiterated that the coach would end his sabbatical in time for the start of spring practice.  And then even that reiteration has been reiterated.

With Florida scheduled to start their spring sessions shortly after the end of Tebow Day in Gainesville, could Meyer delay his arrival so as to avoid the crush of media that has descended upon the school?

At least one prominent Florida columnist thinks that could very well be the case.  In an article appearing in this morning’s Orlando Sentinel, Mike Bianchi writes that, while he “would be surprised if if UF’s head coach isn’t at practice today,” a no-show would also not be out of the question.

I’m starting to wonder if Meyer, a private man who has kept the reasons for his leave of absence guarded, will even attend UF’s first day of practice in an official capacity. The reason I say that is this: It will be an absolute zoo in Gainesville today. With more than 150 media credentials being issued for UF’s Pro Day ( a k a, the media circus where Tim Tebow will unveil his new throwing motion to NFL scouts) and state media also descending on UF for the beginning of spring practice, Meyer may just stay away in an attempt to avoid all of the questions that are sure to come about his health and future. He may prefer to wait a day or two and answer those questions in a less frenzied, more controlled environment.

That’s all well and good but, honestly, it’s going to be like a circus at a zoo regardless of when Meyer decides to officially return.

Might as well get it over with on a day when a lot of the focus will still be on Tim Tebow even after his new throwing motion is unveiled to the masses.

In fact, Tebow’s presence makes it the perfect day for Meyer to return.

Hopefully that’s the case, if for no other reason than we can get on to more important issues.  Like ensuring Lane Kiffin rightfully continues his quest to be named the Sexiest Woman Alive.
