Exactly a month after reports first emerged that Jeff Brinson was transferring from Iowa, the running back could be close to finding a new school.
Brinson’s high school coach Jay Austin tells the St. Petersburg Times‘ Greg Auman that the back will visit the coaches at South Florida this afternoon.
Brinson decided to transfer closer to his St. Petersburg home as his father has a heart condition and the fact that he has a young child in the area. Those issues, the Times reports, could allow the NCAA to grant a waiver and give Brinson the opportunity to play immediately instead of sitting out a season.
The dismissal of RB Mike Ford earlier this year potentially opened up a scholarship for Brinson, and Austin said he “think(s) he would jump on” an opportunity with the Bulls.
Florida State has also expressed an interest per the coach, but told Brinson to check back after spring practice ends.
Brinson – if the NCAA goes along – he could be a great addition to the Skip Holtz Bulls. He was pretty good a few years ago at Northeast High School.
