UGA’s Green kicking around punt-return opportunity

During his two seasons at Georgia, A.J. Green has established himself as one of the premier -- if not the premier -- wide receivers in the country.

In those two years, Green has totaled 109 receptions, 1,771 yards and 14 touchdowns, numbers that earned him several All-SEC and All-American honors.

Now, the junior-to-be wants to add yet another title to his growing résumé: punt returner. Green has not returned a punt at the collegiate level, but he scored 12 return touchdowns during his high school career.

Now, Green says he’s broached the punt-return subject with head coach Mark Richt.

“Yeah, I was talking to coach Richt the other day about returning punts and having me back there,” Green told the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer. “It’s something I did in high school.

“I hope they give me a chance back there. It would be fun. Just adding another dimension to my game. It would be fun.”

If I’m Richt, and my All-Everything player -- my best player on the offensive side of the ball -- came to me asking to return punts, two simple words containing six letters would slide right off my tongue within nanoseconds of the query being posed.

Hell.

No.

No fuss, no muss. And no way in hell that receiver would be anywhere near a punt return unit.
