When Urb Attacks: The Video

You know how sometimes movies don’t live up to their pre-screening hype?

Let’s just say that the video of Urban Meyer going off on Jeremy Fowler of the Orlando Sentinel is the The Godfather: Part III of Coaches Gone Wild videos.  Not bad or extremely disappointing, but it simply didn’t live up to the critics and their “buzz”.

Of course, I had visions of Urban rasslin’ Fowler to the practice field turf, putting his knee to the reporter’s throat, and then delivering his soliloquy through a gold-plated megaphone.  While waving a big piece of raw meat in the air.

So, looking back on it, maybe I had my own personal bar set a wee bit too high.

Anyway, here’s a link to the video as I couldn’t figure out how to imbed it.

UPDATE 9:44 a.m. ET: The video has found its way to YouTube.  Here it is:

(Muchos gracias — that’s “thank you very much” in French — to the esteemed SportsByBrooks for pointing us to the clip.)

So what exactly did the reporter do that was sooo wrong? He asked a fairly innocuous question and printed the answer. Meyer is a bitch…he just wanted to wield some authority. I think his labia is still a little inflamed from the SEC title game
    Go change your kotex Urban!!!!!

  2. WingT says: Mar 25, 2010 9:54 AM

What a whimpy reporter. I bet he had to change his thong after that beat down by the Urb. ROTFLMAO
I bet that reporter never writes anything but positive things about Urby and his convicts.
Thanks Urban for straightening that guy out.
How proud your university must be for the professional way you handled yourself.

  3. Jeff says: Mar 25, 2010 10:09 AM

You can really tell by the video how much Urbanfraud is a man of faith. Threating a reporter that “they would be going at it” if it was his son.

  4. DG0122 says: Mar 25, 2010 10:45 AM

Urban needs to have a team seminar on dealing with the media- ” Don’t ever say anything that even remotely makes me look bad” or something like that…

  5. Seeryer says: Mar 25, 2010 12:37 PM

The reporter should have responded to Urban’s “you are a bad guy” by saying, “at least I won’t have to call a press conference tomorrow to announce that to the world, then the day after that just say I didn’t really mean it. I’ll stand by what I quoted your player saying, I don’t feel as comfortable standing by what I quote you saying. Because I’ll simply have to post a correction the next day”.
Or something like, “if you can’t handle what I quoted your player saying you certainly won’t be able to handle the beating Nick Saban will be laying on you this season. Do yourself and your family alot of good and just take the next two years off. Saban may kill you Urban, you are stareing at four losses in two years to the same team. Based on what happened to you after the last time you competed against Nick, please, for your own health, stay away until 2012.”

  6. rolltide says: Mar 25, 2010 12:37 PM

What’s sort of sad about this isn’t that it happened, but that it happened basically days after coming back from a hiatus with the intention of perhaps preventing things like this.

  7. allpromaterials says: Mar 25, 2010 1:12 PM

Someone said it right on the nose. This guy (Meyer) is still out of it over the waxing he got in the SEC championship game. He needs to wait and take all this frustration out on Saban when they tie up in the fall. He needs to go ahead and retire while his heart is still beating. He really thought 3 or 4 years ago he would be the new ruler in college football but ole Nick came strolling along and Meyer has not been right since.

  8. lakesidegator says: Mar 25, 2010 2:18 PM

If it had been Saban and Fowler, Saban would have said, “If he were my son, AND IF I WAS BIG ENOUGH, we’d be going at it right now.”

  9. Stetson wears panties says: Mar 25, 2010 2:36 PM

    Don’t stroke out there Urb.

  10. SavannahStang66 says: Mar 25, 2010 2:56 PM

UF has created a GOD like syndrome in Urban. Not that he didn’t have some of this on the way in. Great coach but reign in the SEC is over and he feels it. How can a coach berate a reporter who only reported? Tell your players to shut the hell up if you don’t like what comes from their mouth. Urban knows this will be a long year and can’t accept that fact. He’s a bully that’s all, one that will be put in his place on the field.

  11. Piro says: Mar 25, 2010 3:17 PM

How dare that reporter quote a kid correctly and publish what he said…to a reporter…verbatim. Urban has every right to be outraged, and so stomp off like a pre-schooler who didn’t get his turn on the swing.
Let’s ask the big question here though- Where does Urban find shoulderless shirts?

  12. Sportswriter614 says: Mar 25, 2010 3:22 PM

I guess with Timmy gone, Urban can now revert back to his sinful ways… for everything there is a season and all that stuff… thought the reporter handled himself professionally and that made Meyer look even worse… where is Lane kiffin when you need him? Can only imagine what his comments would be about this!

  13. Waynedg8tr says: Mar 25, 2010 3:29 PM

First let me tell you my opinion of most (not all) reporters. They usually make a mountain out of a mole hill, exagerate, take most things out of context and when they get on something they overexpose it to the point of just plain boreing.
Re: the coaches. If i were a coach i would close all practices to the media and concentrate on the purpose. Coaching! I would not speak (no comment) to any reporter (freelance Idiots) that is just trying to cause trouble. I have been hearing for months about Urbans flip flop ya dy ya da junk and its so stupid. If the media can not understand that here is a guy that had a life threatening attack, it scarred the hell out of him, he quit due to that scare, after he survived and was checked out he comes back. How many of us would have done the same thing. However do the idiots in the media understand that, hell no, they just stay on his ass day after day after day. I guess these media guys don’t know how stupid it makes them look. My advise to all coaches is to ignore all (sorry good reporters) reporters all the time till they can act like professionals. Go Urban

  14. Sportswriter614 says: Mar 25, 2010 3:30 PM

If Urban’s this uptight now, wait until Dooley and the Vols paste one on the Gators this fall!

  15. Ron Light says: Mar 25, 2010 3:47 PM

Sounded like the guy received a good butt chewing because of his smearing a young football player for Florida in his published so called news article. When claiming only doing your job, things like this butt chewing will sometimes happen. If you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen as they say. Do you really think you’re an untouchable??

  16. Seeryer says: Mar 25, 2010 5:07 PM

    Ron Light,
Next time Urban yells at one of his players and embarasses him on TV, this reporter should ask Urban if that players’ father ought to kick his arse. Tebow is not a real or traditional QB. Urban is the guy that called his number on 20 running plays per game. Imagine how Urban would react if people called him on all his BS. If he can’t stand the heat, HE NEEDS TO TAKE A REAL LEAVE OF ABSENCE.

  18. Waynedg8tr says: Mar 25, 2010 5:33 PM

I don’t see where Urban “WENT AFTER HIM”
Some of you medi guys must be starving for headlines. So sad. Get a life!

  20. BAMACRUSADER says: Mar 25, 2010 11:13 PM

I’m a Bama fan and we’ve had this guy hurt our feelings more than once. So I don’t like to defend this dude, BUT, I like to see testosterone and meanness when wormy reporters get called out. All they ever do is gutter snipe at people like Myer, especially since he is a Christian. Had that been Nick Saban, there would have been no YouTube video and the wormy reporter would be searching for a dentist and a new line of work. Maybe Myer is learning from our Sabonator. Good for him.

  21. joe coffee says: Mar 26, 2010 10:29 AM

Probably said before BBUUTT what the @#$% K is Urban hiding that he has to deflict by attacking some writer. Talk about Urban’s Trojan Horse ! When it finally comes out the Gator crap will hit the everglades and I CAN’T WAIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. robi2503 says: Mar 26, 2010 10:38 AM

It appears Mr Meyer might be off his meds or it’s that time of the month.

  23. Seeryer says: Mar 26, 2010 12:29 PM

Bama is 2-2 against Meyer. His two biggest butt whoopings were handed out by the Tide. 31-3 in 2005 and 30-13 in 2009. He beat Bama in the regular ’06 season in G-ville and the SEC title game in 2008. So techinically, you are correct to say he has hurt our feelings more than once, but we never had to be rushed to a hospital because we took such a thorough beating.

  24. Waynedg8tr says: Mar 26, 2010 1:23 PM

This is the kind of stuff i refered to yesterday. You guys are a bunch of idiots and are quickly becomming a joke. Its more entertaining to see what kind of crap you come up with than the topic of your insane yellow journalism May i suggest you go on Saturday Night Live so more people can get a laugh from your shit. Y’all are sooooo funny!

  25. brasho says: Mar 26, 2010 4:37 PM

Meyer’s a douche. Seeing this almost makes me want to put my English degree to other use and become a beat writer… I wonder how many recruits and respect Urban would lose taking a beating from a reporter?

  26. Gatorfan1 says: Mar 26, 2010 7:15 PM

Go down there and find out!!!!
Practices are open; I’m sure Urban is shaking in his shoes waiting for you to confront him…you BAD A** you…lol…

waynedg8r’s next intelligent thought will be his first.

  28. coachingdan says: Mar 27, 2010 4:04 PM

As a coach, journalist and father I can say Urban was right on the mark. As a Coach: If you want to be able to report about my team then make sure you don’t cross the line. As a Journalist: If I want to report on a team, don’t cross the line. If I do, then expect a little backlash. As a Father: Talk crap about my kid and expect to get my fist planted in your mouth.
It’s that simple. Stop making it more than what it is. Good luck to all of you and your respective teams this coming season. SEC Football will once again be the conference to watch and win the BCS Championship.

  29. Deb says: Mar 27, 2010 5:55 PM

    @coachingdan …
That’s one of the silliest posts I’ve ever read.
If a coach can’t handle a reporter from a supportive paper ACCURATELY quoting a member of his team, he’s going to have real trouble with the ones who distort what his players say and do.
A journalist’s job is to cover the story accurately and professionally, not to appease the coach. No one seems to be questioning the accuracy of the quote. Sure, backlash comes with the job. My problem with Fowler was that he looked like he was gonna cry about it.
As a father, you’d consider it “talking crap about your kid” to have someone accurately quote him? And the example you’d set for the child would be to plant your fist in the mouth of the person who ACCURATELY quoted him? Interesting parenting approach.

  30. Deb says: Mar 27, 2010 7:25 PM

Oh wait, coachingdan, what was I thinking? I have to keep reminding myself that the coach doesn’t consider Thompson or Brantley–his CURRENT players–his kids. Tebow is the coach’s kid in this scenario. Well, then that fist should go in Thompson’s mouth, not Fowler’s. But why? The quote wasn’t intended to be negative and Fowler quoted it fairly.
Sheesh. The only person who’s handled this like a grownup from the get-go has been Tebow.

Probably none because most of us wouldnt quit a job that paid us millions of dollars a year to participate in what we love the most which is football that we would gladly do for free.

  32. Deb says: Mar 27, 2010 9:20 PM

    @Route36West …
The night of the championship Meyer apparently took a dose of Ambien. At some point, he tried to get out of bed, fell, and was unable to respond coherently. His wife called 911. It’s been confirmed that he didn’t have a heart attack–not that night anyway. It’s been reported that he suffers from anxiety disorders, which can be very frightening if you don’t know what’s happening, and his inability to respond is consistent with trying to move around after taking a substantial dose of Ambien.
The incident may have scared him, but it wasn’t life-threatening.

GaytorFlan1,000,000,000 – keep posting cause every time you do – you “engage your personal DUMBA$$ quotient” and it goes up exponentially.
You’re one of those Gaytor homers who fell off the face of the earth after 1996 then suddenly blew up the tires and jumped on the band wagon when they started to win affter Urbanski dissed his 2 previous teams to come to Gatorville.

  34. Gatorfan1 says: Mar 28, 2010 8:36 PM

Please, tell me that’s not the best you can do?
What a truly oscitant & vacuous response! You need to be more focused & less uninspiring, like
once there lived a douche bag, who the masses considered a scaramouch fag
his words was a of bloviate chanter, childish with all the juvenile banter
with always quips crash landing , the readers were demanding
so please oh please, spare us and stop; with all the hater man kitsch
because afterall, you will always be gatorfans bitch!

You have to give gatorfan1 props for breaking out the thesaurus and at least attempting to be witty. Anyone who puts herself out there and is willing to embarrass herself has to get some credit.
