Once again, it seems, you can probably forget — based on one East Coast report — about Notre Dame and the Big Ten joining forces.
After it looked as if athletic director Jack Swarbrick had left the door open a crack back in March for the Irish to join the conference, it looks as if the door has been unofficially slammed shut yet again.
Citing an unnamed source, the Boston Globe is reporting that the Catholic institution is no longer an expansion candidate, and that “they haven’t been in the mix for awhile.”
Even with the rumors of the Big Ten performing a massive raid on the Big East, the source said the Irish, the Globe wrote, “are fairly confident that it can remain as a full independent in football and remain connected to the Big East — even a smaller all-Catholic version” of the conference.
Of course, this is far from official, but it’s yet another sign — after a glimmer of “hope” — that the Irish in the Big Ten was simply never meant to be.
Thank god! Why drag down the quality of Big Ten football, by adding that has been of a program.
hrmlss, Well said….
Sincerely,
Maurice Clarett
This headline reads like they were not invited, not as “slammed the door shut” later read.
Trust me.
There will come a day when they wish they were in a conference because the way they are playing they are going to mess up teams BCS strength and then they will be screwed.
They should have never BLOCKED touchdown Jesus’ view like the Nittany Lions should have never blocked off the view of Mt. Nittany on the field in all your greed for more $$$$ (the root of all evil).

Notre Dame couldn’t drag it down any further as Michigan has. And as long as there are teams like Illinois, Minnesota, and Indiana trolling the bottom, there is always room for a team like Notre Dame.
@TheToolofTools:
What – no comment on the new suites and lights at the Big House?

Sorry, mister hotdog stand, my memory must be fading. Who won last year’s UM v. ND game? Was it the young team trying to learn a complicated new offense led by a freshman quarterback? Or was it the team full of seniors, led by an “I’m going to win 4 National Championships” quarterback (who won exactly NONE)? Wait, my memory’s coming back . . . LOSER.
oh no, more anti Notre Dame sentiments. I don’t think I can take it anymore, wah wah wah boohoo.
It’s been done, give it a rest you bunch of Domer want-ta-bees. We all know jealousy rears it’s ugly head once again!!
ourlady$ – “We all know jealousy rears it’s ugly head once again!!”
LMAO – no one in America is jealous of a team that who’s last serious contention in the national picture was during the Reagan era. The Cryin’ Irish of Noter Dame are at best a Div 1AA school and that’s only because of the size of the football stadium – not the talent (or lack there of) that takes the field. The Cryers may be hard pressed to contend with Grand Valley State or Capital these days.

I didn’t say one team was better then the other. They both sucked last year, and finished with pretty close records. And my last line was more of a slam on Notre Dame.
I don’t like either team. They both suck and they can keep on sucking for all I care. RichRod is really doing a fine job a destroying the Michigan program, and I hope he keeps it up. Right now he has as many national championships as Bo Schembechler.
So glad I created this profile…hmmm
All of the criticism of ND has been brought on by the wonderful Charlie Weis and his horrible coaching. Please everyone, give an actual quality coach (Kelly) some time with the team and all the scrutiny of ND not being worth a sh!t will go away, along with these ultimatums. We don’t need your conferences, and you couldn’t handle having us in them. ND is an independent a$$ kicking machine with all of the recruiting power and money we need. Mr. Weis has reduced the team and all of its glory to a glimmer of what it once was, just wait….the true return to glory is imminent.
