Cousins leads Spartans in the spring game

Kirk Cousins completed 10 of 15 passes for 254 yards as his Green team capped off spring practice with a hard fought victory in the annual spring game.

“All in all I thought it was a great showing by our football team,” head coach Mark Dantonio said. “I felt Maxwell and Cousins played very well. We had guys who can catch the football. Out defense played hard and played well on third downs. We played aggressive down the field.”

Redshirt freshman Andrew Maxwell went 18 of 34 for 244 yards, adding some good depth for the Spartans as they return Cousins as the presumptive starting quarterback.

Mark Dell had four catches for 133 yards, catching balls of 58 yards, 44 yards, and 27 yards. He and fellow wide receiver B.J. Cunningham both return this spring after being suspended for the Spartan’s bowl game last year.

The Spartans are coming off a 6-7 season and start the year with with Western Michigan coming to East Lansing on September 4th.
