For half of last season, Jarvis Jones was one of the most impressive and productive members of USC’s 2009 recruiting class.
A neck injury forced the linebacker to miss the second half of his freshman season, and an apparent disagreement over the severity of the injury is forcing a move from the school.
According to the school’s official website, Jones has asked for and been granted a release from his scholarship so that he can transfer to another school.
As noted by Michael Lev of the Orange County Register, head coach Lane Kiffin had at one point described the injury as career-threatening and Jones did not participate in spring practice because he could not get clearance from the school’s medical staff. Obviously, Jones’ disagrees with that assessment.
Jones is a Columbus, Ga., native, so any school around that area would be as good a guess as any if you’re looking for initial transfer options.
