Colorado casts wistful glances at Army, Yankee Stadium

While it remains to be seen which conference they would be affiliated with at the time -- or even who their head coach will be -- Colorado is looking to glom onto the burgeoning fad in college football -- neutral site games in shiny new professional stadiums.

CU athletic director Mike Bohn, he of the loose conference expansion lips, told the Boulder Daily Camera that the Buffaloes were attempting to schedule at Yankee Stadium against Army at some point in the next few years.

In order to make a Yankee Stadium game feasible between 2012 and 2015, however, Bohn may have to tweak the schedule, asking a school already on the slate to postpone a game. Even with that schedule juggling, Bohn said the benefits of landing the game would far outweigh the effort it would take to make it happen.

“We`re exploring that and looking at it and we recognize the large number of alumni that live in that part of the country and we also recognize the prominence and stature of Yankee Stadium and the large number of potential students that come from that part of the country as well,” Bohn said.

“We believe that would serve us well to be visibly there on a national stage within a high-profile city.”

Colorado and Army have faced each other twice, with the last time coming in 1977.
