At least for the moment, three members of UCLA’s top-ten 2010 recruiting are now ex-members of the Bruins 2010 football program.
According to a press release issued by the school Tuesday afternoon, head coach Rick Neuheisel has dismissed incoming freshmen Paul Richardson, Shaquille Richardson and Josh Shirley from the team. The dismissals come six days after the trio were arrested and charged with felony theft following an on-campus incident that allegedly involved the stealing of a purse.
The release also states that If they meet certain requirements set by Neuheisel, they may be allowed to enroll in January. Additional discipline may be imposed by the Office of the Dean of Students
“The three young men know they made a terrible mistake,” said Neuheisel. “We expect our players to behave a certain way and there are consequences when they don’t. Paul, Shaquille and Josh are paying a steep price for their lapse in judgment. They will not be allowed to enroll in school this fall and will not have the opportunity to begin their UCLA academic and athletic careers.
“Whether they are allowed to enroll for Winter Quarter will be determined at a later date. That decision will be based on several factors, including their behavior.”
As part of a class that was rated as the eighth-best in the country by Rivals.com, Shirley and Paul Richardson were listed as four-star recruits, while Shaquille Richardson was given three stars.
Was this boot before or after he collected the money after the track team beat the spread?
I say 2 of the 3 end up at Oregon.
“I say 2 of the 3 end up at Oregon.”
(stifling a chuckle)
Don’t any of these coaches check high school disciplinary records and police records before they recruit players? I really doubt that anybody who would stoop to stealing a purse has a squeaky clean record. Even Tressel (Mr. Straight and Narrow) recruited somebody who wound up getting shot TWICE. Why give gangsters scholarships when there are so many hard working decent kids who miss out?
What were they thinking. Don’t they know they are only suppose to take/use handicap parking passes?
Neuheisel would not have done anything if this incident wasn’t public. He’s a huge scumbag.
