Martin will have to redshirt this season in accordance with NCAA transfer rules because he had enrolled at Cal for summer classes. He said the Gators plan on using him as an outside linebacker and hybrid defensive end.
The assurance that he would get to tryout as a lb came from an Orlando radio station. Not sure what the issue is….FL already have Powell & Trail from the 2010 recruiting class — 2 of the top DE in the nation. Florida’s hybrid DE will be like when Spikes occasionally moved up as an extra standup DE—FYI Spikes played at 255 at his highest weight. Not ideal as it hurt his speed. Hope that helps……

Is there a source supporting your claim that there are statements of understanding Urban Meyer made to Martin about competing at a particular position?

Are you kidding? You can say a lot of things about UF, but you are hard pressed to find a campus containing higher quality women. The same could be said about FSU, ASU, etc.
Unlike up north, they can’t hide behind a parka.

Hopefully this kid will red shirt otherwise he’ll be hard pressed to work into the top 6 LB rotation.
Instant starter at other schools doesn’t necessarily translate that way in the Swamp.
If released by Cal he will get a chance to compete as a starter, as all freshman do, but missing Spring ball puts him at the back of the pack.
The good thing is he has to prove how good he can be on the field–can’t rely on what he did in high school as the talent is tooooo good in G-Ville
