Head coach Houston Nutt revealed Thursday at the SEC Media Days that quarterback Raymond Cotton was considering a transfer from Ole Miss, apparently due to an issue over playing time and/or his positioning on the depth chart.
Today, Nutt gave an update — or what passed for an update — on Cotton’s status.
“Nothing has been decided, not as of yet (on Cotton),” Nutt said. “His mom and dad are visiting him today or tomorrow, and I’m hoping he makes the right decision. We’ll see what happens.
“Quarterbacks want to play yesterday. We’re really excited about Nathan Stanley and (former junior college star) Randall Mackey. You’ve got to go with the ones who are there.”
Nutt stated Thursday that Cotton’s parents wanted their son to remain in Oxford, which he reiterated today.
Cotton came out of spring practice No. 2 on the depth chart, but would appear to be in line for playing time in some sort of Wild Rebel-type package at minimum and possibly even leapfrog Stanley for the starting job if he were to have a strong summer camp. Provided, of course, he remains with the Rebels.
