‘Suspicious odor’ leads to charges against Ok. St. DB Victor Johnson

Ah yes, it’s that time of year when, with summer camps looming on the horizon, a young man’s fancy turns to yet another football season. And weed. Bales upon bales upon bales of one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.

The latest college football player caught -- allegedly -- dancin’ a jig with Mary Jane is Oklahoma State’s Victor Johnson.

According to Tulsa World, the junior defensive back was arrested Saturday morning and charged with possession of marijuana and and obstructing police business.

A university police officer was dispatched to Johnson’s Stillwater residence to investigate a complaint of a “suspicious odor” emanating from the DB’s domicile. After an apparent attempt at stonewalling the officer, he conducted a search and discovered that an undisclosed amount of weed was apparently the source of the “suspicious odor” that led him to the house in the first place.

A school spokesman told the paper that “the football coaching staff is gathering details on the incident.”

Johnson has played in 19 games for the Cowboys, and is in line for a shot at a starting job in 2010.
