Left side of Cal’s OL takes big injury hit

Cal could be facing the loss of one of their projected starters on the left side of their offensive line, the Contra Costa Times is reporting.

Left tackle Matt Summers-Gavin suffered an injury to his right knee during practice Sunday and could miss an extended period of time. The sophomore will undergo an MRI Monday to determine the extent of the damage.

If Summers-Gavin is indeed sidelined for any length of time, Mitchell Schwartz would likely slide over from right tackle to left tackle, where he started ten games in 2008.

Summer-Gavin started eight games at left guard in 2009, but missed several others due to a variety of injuries.
