Nathan Stanley still the starting QB at Ole Miss

Pretty much since camp opened a week ago, Jeremiah Masoli has been the center of attention for the Ole Miss Rebels.

Eyeballs on him, however, doesn’t equate to the starting job. Yet.

Following the Rebels’ first scrimmage of the summer, head coach Houston Nutt, the Jackson Clarion-Ledger reports, said that, if the season were to start today, Nathan Stanley would be his starting quarterback.

Heading into the scrimmage, Nutt said reps with the first-team offense would be spread evenly amongst Masoli, Stanley and JUCO transfer Randall Mackey. Stanley only attempted five passes -- completing three -- while Masoli and Mackey attempted 12 and 11, respectively.

Nutt said afterwards that neither of three did anything to put any distance between the other two.

“They’re all doing very good,” Nutt said. “You thought there would be a little more separation by now.”

Masoli’s performance in the scrimmage continued his adjustment to Nutt’s offense, a transition he admitted he’s done with the greatest of ease.

“It’s been surprisingly easy to adjust,” Masoli said. “I think the coaches and the players, that whole atmosphere, has come together and it’s been easier than I expected.”
