Middle Tennessee State quarterback Dwight Dasher is part of an ongoing university inquiry involving an incident report filed with campus police. The report states that Dasher failed to repay a loan given by 80-year-old Oliver Donnell and stole checks from teammate Colin Boss to use as collateral.
Details of the report are as sketchy as the act itself. The amount of the loan has only been described as a “large sum” and the relationship between Dasher and Donnell is unknown, other than the fact that Donnell is a patient at York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN.
In the report, Donnell says the checks that Dasher gave him for collateral had Boss’ name on them, but were not cashed. Donnell filed the report to MTSU campus police on July 27.
MTSU coach Rick Stockstill said Dasher has not been kicked off the team and athletics director Chris Massaro said Dasher’s status for the Sept. 2 opener against Minnesota has not yet been determined.
“In this kind of inquiry, one question might lead to two more questions,” said Massaro. “Generally what happens when you get any kind of report where there could potentially be any kind of NCAA issue, the basic protocol is to self-report that. We also notify the conference office.”
Last season, Dasher became the fourth player in FBS history to pass for at least 2,500 yards and rush for 1,000, but became the first to do so while involved in a money scam. Dasher was voted as preseason Offensive Player of the Year for the Sun Belt Conference.
