UTEP starting WR Davis charged with ‘family violence’

Well, this is certainly not what head coach Mike Price needed ten days before the start of UTEP’s season.

According to ABC-7 in El Paso, starting wide receiver Evan Davis was arrested early Tuesday morning and slapped with three different charges following an incident involving a woman believed to be his girlfriend.

The senior was charged with assault causing body injury/family violence, interference with emergency call, and failure to maintain financial responsibility.

According to an El Paso Police Department spokesman, the 22-year-old Davis got into a verbal altercation with the woman in an apartment in the 300 block of Shadow Mountain that resulted in him allegedly grabbing her by the wrist.

According to police, Davis let the woman go and she grabbed her phone. He then allegedly “tackled her and grabbed the phone and threw the phone.”

In his three years with the Miners, Davis has totaled 39 receptions for 414 yards. He’s also had one touchdown reception in each of the past two seasons.
