Missouri is already facing the possibility that they could be without their leading returning receiver in the opener next weekend.
Now, they could be without last year’s leading rushers and one of their top weapons on the offensive side of the ball.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, running back Derrick Washington has been suspended indefinitely by head coach Gary Pinkel. There was no reason given — not even the ubiquitous “unspecified violation of team rules — for the senior co-captain’s suspension.
With the opener against Illinois a mere nine days away, it’s uncertain whether Washington will be available for all, part or none of the Illini game.
Last season, Washington rushed for 909 yards and 10 ten touchdowns. He added 26 receptions coming out of the backfield.
This has not exactly been the best couple of weeks for the Mizzou program; in addition to the Washington head-scratcher, wide receiver Jerrell Jackson may or may not be back for the opener after breaking his wrist and linebacker Will Ebner was arrested for DWI.
