Pelini remains tight-lipped when it comes to Huskers’ QB situation

With a week to go before they open up the 2010 season, it appears Bo Pelini is ripping a page out of Rich Rodriguez‘s quarterback playbook.

Pelini has steadfastly refused to give even a hint as to how the quarterback competition between senior Zac Lee, sophomore Cody Green and redshirt freshman Taylor Martinez (no relation) is playing out. While the Nebraska head coach intimated that he already knew who his starter is, he has pulled a Rodriguez and said, basically, tune in next Saturday to see who runs out onto the field and lines up under center against Western Kentucky.

“We have our plan,” Pelini said according to the Omaha World-Herald, “but you’ll just have to wait and see what it is.”

Perhaps the only movement in the three-man race comes courtesy of the player who maybe came into summer camp as somewhat of an afterthought. Again, you won’t get any indication from the coaching staff, but reports coming out of the summer sessions seem to indicate that Martinez has been outstanding throughout camp, more so than anticipated, and has thrown himself squarely in the mix.

At varying times, you’ll also hear Lee as the experienced incumbent has the edge or that Green has been the most consistently impressive of the trio.

Aside from that? Only Pelini and his coaching staff have a true grasp on which direction they are leaning at the position. The rest of us will likely just have to sit back and wait until about 7 p.m. ET next Saturday.
