A quarterback competition at Arizona State that had been narrowed to two candidates nearly two weeks ago has been cut in half, the Arizona Republic reports.
Head coach Dennis Erickson announced Monday that Michigan transfer Steven Threet will start Saturday’s opener against Portland State. Threet beat out Brock Osweiler, who started one game last season and is a player that will still see action this season according to Erickson.
“In our decision making, basically (Threet) was the most consistent in fall camp, although Brock had a great camp,” Erickson said. “The biggest thing is I saw great improvement from both.”
Samson Szacocsy started two games last season and was in the mix entering summer camp.
Threet started eight games at Michigan in 2008, then transferred in February the following year. He had also transferred from Georgia Tech to the Wolverines in 2007.
