Originally listed as a starting boundary cornerback, NC State’s Dean Haynes was moved torunning back by head coach Tom O’Brien. The redshirt freshman last played running back whileenrolled at Northwest Whitfield County High in Georgia.
O’Brien felt that his initial starting and backup running backs were underperforming through theWolfpack’s three scrimmages.
The roster move shocked most because O’Brien did not reveal the roster change to begin with.
O’Brien mentioned that Haynes had caught his eye while running with the scout team last season. “Heopened a lot of eyes, especially on the defensive staff, so I had that in the back of my mind.”
Haynes will make his Wolfpack debut this Saturday against Western Carolina.
