Iowa offensive lineman Josh Koeppel was involved in a motorcycle accident Monday morning and will likely not be available to play in the Hawkeyes’ opener.
Based on a very brief video clip from the dashboard of a police cruiser of what’s purported to be the accident, Koeppel is lucky he’ll be available for any games in the future.
Koeppel, who was not wearing a helmet, miraculously suffered only scrapes, bruises and soreness in his one-sided confrontation with Ford F-150.
“We’re not going to take any crazy chances,” head coach Kirk Ferentz said of the lineman’s availability for the Eastern Illinois opener. “From what I’ve heard, he’s probably fortunate it was not more extensive. It’s one thing to play football, it’s another to take on a pickup truck.”
The senior is listed as the co-starter at center along with the coach’s son James Ferentz.

glad he’s ok, but the shoe was pretty funny
WOW!! Talking about lucky this could have went wrong in so many ways! Bikes are great for recreation but you’re asking for disaster when riding without a helmet. Saw on TV just Sunday where they are looking for 2 vehicles that were racing on a public street in Houston. Young man never knew what hit him as he was struck from behind. He’s now in a coma, amputation of one leg and the other is in question. He has what they suspect will be permanent brain damage and he was wearing head gear.
Glad to hear this young man will mend and have no permanent disability from his injuries.
That was sick. He got smacked, but then he just started to get up. It was like it didn’t even phase him.
After that, facing the d linemen the Hawks play this year shouldn’t be too bad
I’ve lived in Iowa City and virtually all the athletes ride mopeds or motorcycles. Last year Kyle Callaway, a 6’6 320 pound offensive tackle was suspended for the UNI game after getting arrested for drunk driving on his moped. The funniest I saw was a 6’11″ basketball player riding around town on his moped. Iowa City has horrible parking near campus and around the athletic facilities so riding a moped is convenient as parking is easier.

ROFLMAO!!!!……………………….I’m not laughing at the fact that he got a DUI on a moped, oh no thats too funny! I’m laughing at the fact he’s 6’6 320 lbs, that is truly like an elephant riding a bicycle!!!
Thanks for the chuckle!
