Knee surgery to sideline Clemson starting LB this weekend

Clemson will open the 2010 season against North Texas with Brandon Maye relegated to the sidelines, the Charleston Post and Courier is reporting.

The starting linebacker will undergo arthroscopic surgery Wednesday to repair an injured knee.  Maye had practiced Monday but aggravated the injury, leading to an MRI and the medical staff’s decision to perform the medical procedure.

“Brandon just finished the best camp of his career,” head coach Dabo Swinney said. “He does not have a serious injury. He had practiced on Monday the entire practice, but he had more swelling. We talked about this with Brandon and the doctors just before practice (Tuesday) and that is when the decision was made.”

Maye, who should be healthy enough to see at least limited action the second weekend against Presbyterian, will be replaced in the starting lineup by Jonathan Willard.
