Kirk Ferentz on the receiving end of another Iowa extension

A little over a year ago, Kirk Ferentz agreed to a seven-year contract extension that would keep him with Iowa through the 2015 season.

Two days ahead of his 12th season opener as the Hawkeyes’ head coach, Ferentz has reached yet another agreement that will keep him in Iowa City for the next decade.

According to a press release, Iowa announced today that they will extend Ferentz’s contract through the 2020 season.  Ferentz would be 65 years old at the end of the new deal.

“I’ve said publicly, and privately to Kirk, that it would be my goal to have him retireat Iowa. This contract is a statement supporting that commitment,” said Gary Barta, the UI’s director of athletics.

“Kirk’s ‘fit’ at Iowa and his desire to live and work here is as strong as any I’ve seen. Thecontinuity and leadership he brings as our head coach and the same among his staff ofassistant coaches provides us a great foundation and important stability,” Barta added.

“I am grateful to the University of Iowa and thrilled to begin my 12th season as headcoach and 21st overall with this world class institution. The coaching staff, players and Iare looking forward to competing this season,” said Ferentz.

Per the release, Ferentz’s total annual compensation under the new agreement will be $3,675,000. Thistotal is comprised of annual base income of $1.87 million, an increase of $250,000, andannual supplemental compensation of $1.48 million, an increase of $80,000. Ferentz willalso receive annual longevity compensation beginning in 2010. That amount starts at$325,000 and increases annually.

    Awesome!!!!!!
Besides Hayden Fry, Kirk is the best coach I have ever seen at Iowa. Not saying much as Fry & Ferentz are the only two coaches I have ever known at Iowa.
    Go HAWKS!!!!!!!
