If this is the year Arizona is supposed to make some noise in the Pac-10, then they’re going to have to play a little better than they did in the first half on the road at Toledo.
The Wildcats’ 21-2 lead after the end of two quarters doesn’t really tell the whole story. With just over three minutes left in the first half, Arizona led only 7-2, but a quick 36-yard touchdown run by running back Nic Grigsby gave Mike Stoops’ team some breathing room.
On Toledo’s next drive, Austin Dantin’s pass was intercepted by Arizona linebacker Derek Earls. The interception led to a Nick Foles 1-yard touchdown run.
Foles, a junior from Austin, Texas, is 18-of-21 for 151 yards in the first half.
Toledo’s lone score came on a safety when holding was called on Arizona lineman Conan Amituanai in the endzone.
Wait a minute! Arizona lights up Toledo for 41 points and 518 total yards, and your headline is “Arizona Wildcats sluggish…” Nick Foles went 32 for 37 with 2 touchdowns, and Juron Criner had 11 catches for 187 yards. And Arizona’s questionable defense limited Toledo to only 183 yards and no offensive points.
Yes, they had a few bad series in the first half, but if this had been any team in the SEC, your headline would have used words like spectacular, unbelievable, or dominating. But again it shows that Arizona and the Pac-10 don’t get any respect.
@phelbin
Notice the title says sluggish “in first half”. I wrote this update at halftime.
Take it easy, Rodney Dangerfield.
I thought Arizona was in the WAC………..or is that should be…………
The embarrassing part of this game is that Arizona had to sign a H & H with a MAC team!!!!
Arizona doesn’t draw well enough to make $$$ paying the the standard MAC fee of $700 K so they have to travel to Toledo? Maybe Arizona should move to the MWC.
Nick Foles will be drafted because of his performance this season. We see it all too often.
