UGA on the verge of ‘earning’ ninth arrest since March

What, you thought just because the college football season has officially started the legal issues would stop?

According to multiple reports, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Georgia safety Alec Ogletree. The charge? The redundant misdemeanor known as “theft by taking”. The warrant was issued Thursday afternoon after Ogletree spoke to police.

Ogletree is expected to turn himself in to the authorities at some point Sunday.

The charge stems from an on-campus incident in which the freshman allegedly stole the scooter helmet of an UGA track athlete. The value of the helmet is $35, and the alleged victim asked that charges be pursued against the alleged perpetrator.

“In recent days it became known that an individual had it,” UGA police chief Jimmy “Columbo” Williamson said. “Based on some documentation and statements made by Mr. Ogletree, he was charged with theft by taking of the helmet.”

Ogletree would become the ninth member of the UGA football program -- if you include their now-former athletic director’s drunk-driving charge -- since March, a fact that’s not sitting well with some members of the media.
