UGA to hold All-American A.J. Green out of opener

An NCAA investigation that’s slammed headfirst into the top of North Carolina’s depth chart and cost Alabama a starter for two games has now touched Georgia as well.

According to multiple reports, star wide receiver A.J. Green will be held out of today’s opener against Louisiana-Lafayette as the school awaits to hear a ruling from the NCAA on the All-American’s eligibility.

There had been no hint in recent weeks, or even days, that Green’s availability for the opener would be in doubt, even as his name has been mentioned in connection with the NCAA’s multi-faceted probe into several players at different schools being on the receiving end of illicit benefits from agents.

NCAA investigators were on the Athens campus in July conducting interviews, and Green was rumored to be the sole target of the questioning.  Green, however, adamantly denied that he had ever attended any parties in Miami that led to the investigations.

I’ve never been to South Beach,” Green said when his name surfaced in connection to the allegations.

Regardless, Green’s eligibility remains up in the air.  Provided it’s just for the opener, Green’s absence will have little impact.  If it were to extend beyond the opener?  That would be a huge, huge blow from which the offense might not be able to recover.

Why is the NCAA taking so long to make a decision?? Nick Saben makes media headlines with the ‘pimp’ statement and the NCAA hurries and make a decision with Marcell Dareus. While AJ Green, who may have done nothing, is punished by the lack of due process in the NCAA.

    @ Ben
Marcell Dareus came forward and gave the NCAA all the info about his trips and was very forthcoming. A J Green knows nothing, did nothing and claims the guy that broke the NCAA rules was his long lost twin.
Not a fan of the NCAA but in the cases where the athletes come totally clean & provide all the pertinint info they should get a quicker response.
Again, now they have to try and track down that mischevious eveil twin of A J Green so it will take longer—LOL
