The saga that is Marvin Austin continues today as we get word that the North Carolina defensive tackle will be held out of practice this week, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Austin was one of 13 players suspended for/held out of Saturday night’s 30-24 loss to LSU. According to the Observer, the other 12 players are expected to practice this week.
Sitting Austin was “a Butch Davis decision” a team spokesman told the paper.
There’s been no decision made on whether some/most/all of the players will miss additional games. Fortunately for the Tar Heels, they are off this weekend and don’t play again until Sept. 18 against Georgia Tech to open up ACC play.
Athletic director Dick Baddour said he hoped within “the next week or ten days or two weeks to have a better sense of what’s involved with each case.”
In addition to the suspension, which was supposedly unrelated to the NCAA’s investigations into agents and academics at the school, Austin was subpoenaed last week by the North Carolina Secretary of State’s office regarding the agent aspect of the twin probes.

Uummmm this doesn’t sound like it bodes well for this young man! Its one thing for the NCAA to come a knocking, but the NC Sec of State!!!!!
Sounds like agents may have a bit more than coaches to deal with in NC in the future!
