In a piece praising the play of Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson, we opined that the transfer rumors hanging around Tate Forcier would pick up volume after last year’s season-long starter was buried at No. 3 on the depth chart for the opener.
Forcier opened that can of worms following Michigan’s 30-10 win over UConn, and his father quickly attempted to shove the critters back in.
In the immediate aftermath of a huge win for the program, Forcier was asked by AnnArbor.com if he had a minute to talk. Forcier had eight words worth of time, and encapsulated his current situation with very little said.
“All you need to know is I’m out,” Forcier reportedly said.
Shortly after that quote hit the web, Forcier’s father took steps to tamp out the rumor fire.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Michael Forcier said it’s “150-percent fact” his son is staying at Michigan. The elder Forcier blamed his son’s comments on frustration.
if that’s indeed the case, the frustration has been brewing for a few months. After starting every game in 2009, Forcier found himself in a three-way battle for the starting job as spring practice commenced. As the offseason progressed, it became clear that both Devin Gardner and, especially, Denard Robinson had a legitimate shot at grabbing what once was Forcier’s.
Before Saturday, the low point for Forcier was being publicly called out by a teammate for a questionable work ethic and being a borderline disease in the locker room. Then, just to pile on, having his coach publicly side with that point of view.
Regardless of the spin being put on by his family, is clear that Forcier is not only unhappy with his situation now, but will continue to be that way for the foreseeable future. For all involved, but especially a football program that’s looking to get back to where they once were on the conference and national scene,it would be best to cut bait right now. Not in a couple months, or even a couple of weeks. Right. Now.
All parties would be better off with a parting of the ways, instead of allowing the rumors and speculation that will surely ensue dominate the discussion if Forcier remains a Wolverine.
Can’t blame him if he leaves because he’s not the kind of QB that they need. He can still find a school, like Arkansas, that would fit him better. If he has dreams of the next level, it’s not going to happen at Michigan.
If he feels he deserves to start, thats his opinion. Michighan is playing to win. if u are good, u will start. if a QB makes good decisions and has the backing of the team, he will start. in conclusions, he must not be that good, transfer while u can. somebody will take him.
Go ahead and transfer Tate.. it worked out for Troy Aikman.. not so well for Mitch Mustain..
If I’m Tate, I transfer. After watching Denard Robinson tear up the field yesterday, I can’t see Tate ever starting at QB again – unless Denard breaks a leg or something.
On a related note, Jeff Gillooly is currently looking for work. Tate may want to consider calling him.
transfer, you had a season to prove and an off season to show your worth and you sucked. next time think about not training and practicing, if BO were there youd be a bench scrub.
If he has good grades I recommend he remain at Michigan because graduating Michigan and getting its’ degree is well worth the frustration. Ask any Alumni.
As far as Michigan’s QB goes, I bet the QB does not last through the entire season. You don’t call football football the way Michigan played it Saturday. It will not be long. Someone will put a legal hit on the QB and it will be over for him and the team for that matter.
Ryan Mallett… it could work out well for you… but not with a contender. You’re just not that good. No shame in that.
I don’t mind the transfer…. I mind the whinning and obvious sideline pouting during what should have been a ‘Team’ win.
Tate – Do what you need to do, but grow up and do it like a man, remembering your team.
Who want’s a guy exhibiting your behavior in their lockeroom.
Better included a box of tissues in your transfer conditions.
Coming out is a deeply personal decision. Congratulations to Tater for announcing it to the world.

Your post obviosly reflect your name….
The way Michigan played football isn’t football?
It isn’t traditional Big 10 football but it IS RichRod football and as long as he is there that’s how they will play. He recruits to his system and you will see plenty of small fast scat back types in his lineups. It kinda made the game not so Big 10 boring–he was fun to watch. Can’t ever root for any player to get hurt–that’s notsosmart!!!!
