Florida's Pouncey looking to rebound from rough start

If you watched Florida’s 34-12 victory over Miami (Ohio) in Week One (and your username starts with blitz…), Mike Pouncey’s ball-snapping skills, or lack thereof, probably made you want to pull your hair out.

Good news: Pouncey got the memo and he’s working on it.

“It’s something I wish I worked on before, but I’m glad it happened at game one instead of when we’re up at Tennessee or coming up this week,” Pouncey said Tuesday morning.

The senior took matters into his own hands (literally?) when he and quarterback John Brantley met Sunday morning at 11 a.m. to work on snap workouts.  Pouncey has also adjusted his grip on the ball and insists there have been no snap issues since.

“It’s in my past, so I’m not worried about it,” he said, “so I don’t think anyone else should be.”

Pouncey will get a chance to show if he’s made any strides in Week Two when the Gators host the South Florida Bulls. Kickoff is slated for 12:21 E.T.

Can you image what will happen if USF beats UF this weekend. They will be undefeated against FSU, UF, & UCF. Who else can say that???
The game will be a lot closer than anyone expects.
P.S. USF will never beat Miami though.

Oh, REALLY? You want to be a first round pick and you’re just NOW working on it and wishing that you had worked on it before? If this quote gets to the right places, this will send up a hell of a red flag because it means that he’d rather try to do it with his “natural” talents than prepare. Good luck…

USF is a really good team and they will contend for the Big east title this yr—book it.
Obviously if the GATORS play like last week they very well could lose this game—-I still have a full head of hair and don’t expect that to change after this game.
Not sure what a lot closer than people expect means but 2 Tds is where I would expect this to
be and anything over that is a big improvement.
@ Edgy–that red flag is what the Steelers are hoping for so he would slip to them and they would have BOTH the twins–that’s from Pouncey’s teammates & coach Tomlin of the Steelers.
Pouncey looked horrible–no doubt, but he will turn it around & be the all american lineman that he is when all is said and done…….

Its good to see Pouncey is going to spend a little less time making out with his brother an more time practicing how to snap a football.

He made one All-American team last year, Pro Football Weekly, as a guard while his brother made 9, including several that REALLY counted (The two REAL All-Americans, Johnson and Iupati, made 10 All-American teams, including several that meant something). He might make it to the top of the SEC but I think that he’s got to work his ass off to be All-American at center. Too many guys on the list that DIDN’T play like crap on national TV against a bad opponent for him to overcome.
He was there to watch his brother and he KNEW what his brother did and yet, he says that he wished that he had worked on something that he should have known was part of his job. Stop making excuses for the guy. He should do the right thing and move back to the position where he can do them the most good and they can put someone else in there for the long term. He’s gone after this year, All-American or not, so why not put in a long term solution instead of hoping that he can be half as good as his brother.

    Lame excuse….
Work harder, play better, talk less and definitely don’t make out with your bro.
This weekend will be binary. Either UF will blow out USF or lose….the direction of the season will be set.
The one thing that encouraged me about last week was how Brantley responded to the following during the first quarter of his first start (replacing a legend) with the weight of the world on his shoulders: several poor snaps from his OC, a dropped TD, and numerous other miscues.
Honestly, I think the fact that he didn’t come apart, but stepped up and had a nice game was very encouraging. If you put a younger Tebow in that position, his head would have exploded making the situation worse.
All that being said, the Gators could come out and lose this weekend.

USF had the 2nd best defensive line recruiting class in the country two years ago. Those guys should be coming of age this year (minus Pierre Paul). Don’t sleep on USF to keep it close.
I am a realist though. Florida will come out better for this one.
