Finally, North Carolina has received some good news on the personnel front, albeit on the molecular level given the scope of players involved.
Nine days after being down 13 players due to a multi-pronged NCAA investigation, at least one of the baker’s dozen has been given the all-clear for this weekend.
Running back Shaun Draughn, the Raleigh News & Observer reports, has been cleared by the school and will play in Saturday’s game against Georgia Tech. While not technically suspended, Draughn was held out of the season-opening loss to LSU, presumably as a precaution.
There’s no word on whether any additional players will be cleared in time for the conference game with the Yellow Jackets.
The Tar Heels have been embroiled in a two-month long probe by the NCAA, one that first began into players’ relationships with agents and then expanded to include academics. One assistant coach has already “resigned” his post due to being named as a central figure in the investigation.
