MTSU QB Dasher hit with four-game suspension

A ruling from the NCAA this afternoon could leave Middle Tennessee State without their star quarterback for another two games, the school announced Thursday afternoon.

According to the press release, Dwight Dasher has been suspended four games for accepting a $1,500 loan, reportedly from an 80-year-old war veteran he had befriended. As Dasher has already missed the first two games of the season, he would be eligible to return for an Oct. 5 conference game with Troy.

Athletic director Chris Massaro said the school will file an appeal in the hopes of getting the suspension reduced by a game.

“Middle Tennessee State University respects the NCAAs decision but we do plan to make a formal appeal,” Massaro said in a statement. “The appeal process is already underway and we feel there is enough mitigation to warrant a three-game suspension.”

Last season, Dasher was the fourth player in Div. 1-A (FBS) history to throw for more than 2,500 yards and run for more than a 1,000 in a single season. He was named the Sun Belt conference’s preseason offensive player of the year.

The Blue Raiders are 1-1 without Dasher, with the lone loss coming by a touchdown to Minnesota the first week of the year.
