Pat White on Denard Robinson: ‘He’s a beast’

After accounting for more yards of total offense in the first two games than 86 teams in the country, Michigan’s Denard Robinson has already been slapped with the very lofty label of Pat White v2.0.

According to v1.0, it’s an apt moniker for the Wolverines quarterback.

On a conference call to announce his move from pro football to pro baseball, White was asked about Robinson and what he’s accomplished thus far as the prototypical centerpiece in the Rich Rodriguez version of the spread offense. Needless to say, the former West Virginia quarterback has been impressed with what he’s seen.

“He’s a beast. He’s just doing amazing things out there,” White said according to USA Today. “He obviously knows the position and looks like a hard runner and a good leader. He doesn’t look afraid to run the ball or stick his nose in there.”

With over 10,000 total yards and 100-plus touchdowns on his collegiate résumé under Rodriguez, White certainly knows what he speaks of when it comes to triggermen in that offense, and his reviews of Robinson should carry a good deal of credibility regardless of how far removed he is from the situation.

Obviously, though, all of the praise being heaped upon Robinson after just two games as a starter may turn out to be way premature and extremely misguided, but, damn, how can you not gush about a player who put those numbers on the board -- 885 yards of total offense, five touchdowns -- against schools that don’t answer to the name Arkansas State or UCLA*?

Robinson has a long way to go to prove he’s the real deal, but, thus far, he’s more than proven he may very well be just that.

(*sorry, Bruin fans. Couldn’t resist.)
