Mark Dantonio released from hospital

Two days after throwing a scare into those close to him specifically and the college football world in general, Mark Dantonio has taken his next step toward eventually returning to Michigan State’s sidelines.

The Spartans head coach, the school announced Tuesday afternoon, has been released from the hospital and returned home around 3 p.m. ET.

Dantonio had been hospitalized since early Sunday morning after suffering a heart attack in the hours after his team’s thrilling overtime win against Notre Dame. Angioplasty was performed on the coach, with a stent being inserted into a blocked artery near his heart.

With Dantonio sidelined indefinitely, offensive coordinator Don Treadwell has assumed head-coaching responsibilities. No timeline has been given for Dantonio’s return.
