Hokies to be sans starting RB Saturday

Earlier in the week, David Wilson gave a very big clue clue as to the availability of fellow running back Ryan Williams for Virginia Tech’s game this weekend against Boston College.

“Unfortunately, Ryan won’t be with us this game,” Wilson said at the time. “That means I’ll be getting more carries again.”

Thursday, the Hokies confirmed Wilson’s prognosis.

According to the depth chart released this afternoon by the school, Williams is listed as “out” for Tech’s ACC opener. Williams suffered a hamstring injury in the first half of Tech’s 49-27 win over East Carolina this past weekend.

After rushing for 1655 yards (5.6 ypc) and 21 touchdowns as a freshman in 2009, Williams production has dropped precipitously in the first three games of 2010 -- 139 yards (3.0 ypc) and three touchdowns.

Darren Evans is expected to get the start but, as Wilson noted, he should get his share of carries.
