Pitt loses starting linebacker for rest of 2010

A really bad stretch of days this month has officially gotten exponentially worse for Pittsburgh linebacker Dan Mason.

When Mason’s right knee was bent in a way that’s normally not physically possible last Thursday against Miami, it was thought the sophomore’s season was likely over. Unfortunately, that’s turned out to be the case.

Mason suffered a dislocated kneecap and ligament damage in the knee, and will be lost for the remainder of the 2010 season. Obviously, Mason will undergo surgery to repair the damage.

The middle linebacker will be eligible to apply for a medical redshirt.

Redshirt freshman Shane Gordon is expected to take over as the starter.
