Brantley injury rumor has oddsmakers yanking UF-LSU game

Apparently, there’s a rumor making the rounds that Florida quarterback John Brantley suffered an injury during the loss to Alabama that’s severe enough to call into question his availability for this weekend’s game against LSU.

Offensive coordinator Steve Addazio told the Gainesville Sun that there’s no truth to the rumor.  A school spokesperson told the same paper that Brantley is fine and is expected to play Saturday.

That, however, hasn’t stopped the sportsbooks from taking the rumor very seriously.  According to the Sun, several casinos have removed the Florida-LSU game Saturday from their boards on the strength of the rumors.

We’re hearing that (Brantley) is questionable,” said Jay Kornegay, Sportsbook Director at the Las Vegas Hilton. “Whenever we get confirmation, either way, what his status is, if he’s playing or not, that’ll make it a betting game again.”

Brantley is scheduled to meet with the media Tuesday afternoon, although he said on Monday that while he’s “a bit sore… It’s nothing major.”  The starter added that he expects to practice throughout the week.

However, when those whose livelihood depends on getting the most accurate information possible on every facet of every game takes what’s supposedly a rumor this seriously, it’s something that should be watched, regardless of whatever denials are being put out there by the school.

    Note: if your livelihood depends on the soreness of a 21-year-old kid’s arm for a football game, then you need a different livelihood.

    I got the Gators winning this game. If Brantley can’t go this game might end 0-0. Its hard to believe with the talent LSU has, their offense could be so pathetic.
    Gators 3
    LSU 2

    @ SoFlaTrojan
    You have it all wrong. The score will be Gators 6 LSU 3 in OT.

    BBCO;
    As we previously learned on CFT the Gators starting kicker is going to be out for awhile. I think it is quite a bold move on your part to assume they will kick 2 field goals.

    No no no. Fellas…. Gators 6 LSU 4 in regulation.

    *sigh*
    After nearly 4 full quarters of inept offense (LSU) and fumbled snaps courtesy of Pouncey, it will be tied with :08 left on the clock, LSU ball on the Florida 20. Rather than go with the easy FG for the win, Miles will call a draw up the middle and signal the QB to spike the ball *before the whistle is blown*. This will be ruled a fumble and Florida will run it back for the game-winning TD.
